Grand Africa Cafe & Beach (Granger Bay) - Restaurant in Cape Town. Critic's review. Ishay Govender- Ypma. Food Located in a secluded cove from the main road on Granger Bay, an artificially created beach with reclaimed sea sand and an abandoned warehouse pair up to offer you one of Cape Town’s most popular beach- dining experiences. The crowd is mixed – from those just out of college to families with small children. The pizzas and cocktails are perennially popular, and the views over Granger Bay are simply beautiful. Here you have the opportunity to dip your toes into the sand, sit under an umbrella and dream your cares away. Locals often complain about the prices, but the food is pretty good, considering how busy it gets at peak times.

The wood- fired pizzas are a great option with thin bases and a variety of toppings, from the simple to more filling fare; firm favourites include the Parma ham pizza as well as the seafood variation. There is something quite lovely about eating seafood at the beach (even if it is an artificial one) and they offer ample variety. Opt for the mussels and frite or the linefish when in stock.

Large snack platters or steak B. You may find yourself ordering a refill with a barman because your waiter is nowhere to be found. Drinks The cocktails are the most popular on the menu. A good selection of wines and beers complete the trendy beach bar vibe. Ambience. On par with the swankiest beach bar restaurants on the C.
Paris bistro chairs and a luxuriously decorated indoor industrial space make up the chic d. These are the perennial favourite amongst patrons.
Other bistro hits include the perfectly seared steak with b. However, it’s the cocktails – ranging from the Ginger Rogers to Old Fashioned – that draw the crowds. Service. Sociable and friendly, but very slow once the place fills up. Ambience. You could hardly ask for a better setting in summertime. Step off the veranda onto sea sand and take in the view of Granger Bay.
And.. Those in the mood for the glitz of Victoria Road should stop by the Camps Bay branch. This place could be a total gem but instead it has lackluster service, its food is of poor quality ( A pizza for R9. I mean you could at least buy fake mozzarella!
Service was pathetic to say the least. To get our bill we had to ask 5 time's and 4. We left your establishment with out paying, your staff did not even try and stop us. However in doing the right thing we did go back and did pay our own calculation after your staff could still not produce a bill.
Did that money just end up in a staff members back pocket? Good luck with your future is seem rather dim to me! Very relaxed atmosphere, take off your shoes and your feet in the sea sand! The food is superb, try the pizza, long instead of round. Service was superb, I have been there more than once & I will definitely be back.
I had booked a large table of 1. The tables were sticky and dirty and the menus were torn with wine stains and encrusted food in them. After twice requesting that the tables be wiped clean, I went to find a manager to complain. We eventually received tablecloths and a new set of menus that quite frankly were as bad as the first set. The service was patchy at best and the food mediocre. There was no evidence of any management on the floor and the crowning moment was when a table walked in with a Great Dane dog who proceeded to walk up to the table adjoining ours and relieve himself on the table and chair legs. Frankly, I will never return.
It is terribly disappointing for Cape Town when places such as these become this shoddy. The mains were served to the wrong people ( meat cooked to different preferences). All the meals were tepid and mediocre and I didn't receive mine as it was forgotten. Everyone had to start eating without me. We were outside on the sand but instead of breathing fresh sea air we were surrounded by smokers, which I believe is against the law. Sweetner and ketchup were asked for, from more than one waiter, but as it took so long we all felt. Both were declined and a request for my late meal to be taken off the bill was agreed upon until we learned that the waiter would have to pay for it.
We did not want this to happen so we offered to pay the bill in full. The last time we visited the resturant the service was the same but we decided to give it a second chance. They failed miserably Julie& nbsp. Mather. November 1. Took our managers for dinner at this venue, although the setting is amazing, that's all it has going for it.
We were visiting CT and decided on GC for lunch. Ordered a 1kg starter portion mussels to share. All ate, and within 2. One person needed to go to the doctor as his vomiting and upset stomach were chronic. I called management, I think I spoke to Peter, he said they'd sold 1.
I've never heard a word from him. For the past week, we have enjoyed lunch and dinner at different CT venues, but sadly this was the worst I have experienced for some time. Food was excellent but very expensive, venue was awesome but the service was shocking. No waitress in sight for the entire meal. The only time we saw her was when she took our order and when she brought the bill. Food and drink prices are very expensive. With the V& A improving the parking areas and approach to this venue, and the owners and management having refreshed it for the season, we enjoyed the food, service and ambience and location, and one is reminded that it's a unique asset for locals and visitors.
Peter& nbsp. Orsmond. March 2. 7th, 2. 01. My mates are down from London and I was upset to find that they had booked a table a The Grand.
Been there before and was poor and hey, what do you know? Terrible again! Firstly, the waiter has such an attitude - felt like we were doing him a favour by ordering and was a big effort for him when ever we asked for drinks, etc.
Meal was average and topped off with a burnt Irish coffee that was not drunk at all. Another gem was the fact that my mates from London ate at the Camps Bay Grand during the day and got served a cold chicken burger with cold BBQ sauce which was sent back. Well done - we won't be back. I suggest Bungalow, Pepenero or Shimmy.
Nooriya& nbsp. Omar. February 1st, 2. Stunning setting. The salmon pizza and range of salads are delicious. Grande Cafe should lose the huge mirrored ball though, it blocks the view and spoils the ambience of the place. Susanne& nbsp.
Faussner. April 2. I previously went for lunch to the Grand, great service, stunning venue, good food! Last night I took 2 German travel writers to the Grand for dinner. I was really reluctant after reading all the reviews, but we had a stunning evening. Service was a bit slow at the beginning, but improved and was fine.
We ordered salads as starters to share, the salads could have been a bit more elaborate. We all ordered the line fish of the day (kingklip) with veggies. The grilled kingklip was of outstanding quality and the veggies tasty.
We paid cash and the waiter came back to the table to ask whether we were not happy with his service. We assured him that we were happy with his service. The waiter then explained to us, that guests to South Africa tip at least 1. We agreed with him and asked him to count the cash received again, which ended with an embarressement for him, as a more than 1. When leaving we had a longer discussion about the attitude of entitlement in South Africa concerning tips. From leaving the plane to finally arriving at the hotel room my friend had paid tips 1.
Melonie & nbsp. Kariem. February 2. Firstly upon arrival we could not secure a disabled parking close to the restaurant, only upon insisting that there should be provision made for disabled patrons were we given parking close to the entrance of the restaurant.
My partner is on crutches, the table which we were shown to was situated slap bang in the middle of what could at best be described as the “walk- way”. We constantly had to move his crutches so as to not have someone trip over them. We had been seated for a good 1. The person arrived enquired what we wanted to drink, before we could finish our orders the food arrived for the table adjacent to ours, without as much as an “excuse me please” our waiter moved from our table and proceeded to deliver the food at the next table.
This should have immediately set off the warning bells for me, but I was determined to have dinner at the renowned Grand. The next indicator should have been when the patron at the table where the food have just been delivered called the waiter to complain that her food was cold.
We placed the order for our starters and my partner stepped away from the table. The waiter returned at this stage with 1 bread roll, yes 1, and proceeded to share the following with me “I could have come back here with nothing, but here’s 1 roll so long I’ll see if I can scale another one for you!” Scale? Seriously, you have to poach a bread roll for me. The disappointment did not stop there.
The Grand proceeded to diminish themselves even further. We placed the order for our mains and both our starches when they arrived at the table were ice cold.
We managed to flag down a passing waiter as ours was nowhere to be found. At no stage did our waiter come to enquire whether he could remove our food to be kept warm whilst we waited for our starch. Eventually when our starch reappeared at our table (by this time our meals had been consumed already), we were gobsmacked. These were Mc. Cain fries which had been fried too long in very questionable oil! Worst service ever! Lisa& nbsp. Nel.
February 2. 6th, 2. Worst place I have ever been to in my life! We almost left in tears after a great day was totally ruined. We just wanted to end our day with a quick ice cream and drinks before we had to rush home. Our waitor made us feel utterly unwelcome.
He gave us unwashed cutlery, that still had food on. He never checked up on us. Then he moved our umbrella to an empty table so that we had to sit in the sun.
